Daily purchase limits for adult use cannabis customers

Licensed retailers may not sell more than the following amounts to a single adult-use customer in one day:

  • 28.5 grams of non-concentrated cannabis (e.g., dried flower)
  • 8 grams of cannabis concentrate (includes oils, waxes and etc.)
  • 6 immature cannabis plants

Retailers may calculate the amount of cannabis concentrate in manufactured products in any manner that the retailer determines complies with the daily limit. For products that contain both non-concentrated and concentrated cannabis retailers may apply the weight of the flower (or plant material) toward the non-concentrated cannabis limit and the amount of concentrate toward the cannabis concentrate limit.

Daily purchase limits for medicinal cannabis patients may vary.

Using the term organic or OCal on cannabis packaging is restricted

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) developed the OCal certification program to assist consumers with making informed choices about cannabis and cannabis products. The OCal seal distinguishes cannabis grown using organic practices in the marketplace.

CCR section 17408 includes strict requirements for product labels that prohibit using false or misleading information. License holders that provide false or misleading information on product labels may be subject to a compliance action from The Department of Cannabis Control (DCC), including but not limited to, a notice to comply and/or a citation and fine.

Consumer brochure requirements for retailers

DCC and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) created an informational brochure to help consumers make informed decisions. All storefront and non-storefront retailers, including microbusinesses with retail activities, must display and provide printed copies of the brochure:

  • At the point of sale
  • At final delivery in-person
  • Online at the time of purchase

You must also offer each new consumer a copy of the brochure. The brochure is available for download, along with additional information on our website.

The U.S. Department of Justice and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has opened registration for medicinal cannabis manufacturers, distributors, and testing laboratories. If you have already registered, you do not need to re-register.
